England national team coach Gareth Southgate has been highly impressed with Kobbie Mainoo’s ability to handle pressure at Manchester United.
Kobbie Mainoo has been called up to the England squad for Euro 2024 following his outstanding performances at Man United this season. Mainoo capped off his debut season with the decisive goal in MU’s 2-1 victory over Man City in the FA Cup final.
Recently, coach Southgate expressed his delight at giving the midfielder a spot in the England squad for the upcoming tournament, emphasizing that he is not worried about Mainoo’s lack of experience after witnessing his maturity while playing for Man United.
Southgate told the England national team’s website: “The intriguing thing about young talent is how they will handle pressure. You can see the technical ability, but it’s their tactical awareness, maturity, and ability to cope with big matches that is the challenge.”
“Mainoo has been playing for MU and has been noticed. He joined the national team in March. We have never been hesitant to bring young players into the team if they are good enough. Kobbie Mainoo has had a fantastic season, and it was great that he finished the season with a goal and a title.”
After ending the season with a title at Man United, Mainoo will be hoping to earn his third cap for the national team when England plays a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina ahead of Euro 2024, aiming to secure a spot in the starting lineup for the tournament in Germany in June.
At Euro 2024, England is in Group C alongside opponents such as Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia.
