German fans, after being taunted with “go home” chants by England supporters, engaged in a brawl right outside Stuttgart Arena.
English fans “clashed” with German fans after the home team was eliminated from Euro 2024 by Spain. Around 50,000 England supporters were expected in Düsseldorf ahead of their match against Switzerland.
The brawl occurred right outside Stuttgart Arena, where the Germany vs. Spain match took place, and also in pubs and restaurants with slogans like “Where is Germany going?”.
The most intense scene was on the streets, where many England fans gathered. Videos show chaos with beer bottles and glasses being thrown, and fans in different colors punching and kicking each other.
Reports indicate that over 50,000 England supporters were in Düsseldorf, with about half having tickets for the match. The rest of the fans gathered in pubs and restaurants throughout the city to cheer for the home team.
According to pub owners in Düsseldorf, English fans gathered early and drank so much that many establishments ran out of beer and liquor, exacerbating the situation.
Vangelis Chantzis, a pub owner, said: “No one here has ever seen anything like it.”
English football fans’ chants echoed throughout the city: “Please don’t take me home, I just don’t want to go to work. I’ll stay here and drink all your beer,” and last weekend, they nearly accomplished that.
The England vs. Switzerland match will take place at 5:00 PM on July 6th (UK time).
