Turkey triumphed over Georgia with a 3-1 victory in their EURO 2024 opener, held on June 18. Real Madrid’s young star, Arda Guler, left a lasting impression with an unstoppable long-range shot, securing Turkey is second goal of the match.
Guler received widespread acclaim from fans and teammates alike. Even Georgia’s head coach, Willy Sagnol, had glowing words for the performance of the player born in 2005.
“Arda is an exceptional talent; he will gain more experience and score many more goals in the near future,” Sagnol said after the match between Turkey and Georgia.
Additionally, the former French national team player evaluated Georgia’s performance in this match.
“My feelings are quite mixed. We had many opportunities to score. I don’t want to discuss whether we deserved this result because this is football. We hoped for a better outcome, but I am still very proud of my players. We learn quickly and will perform better soon.”
Turkey and Georgia created one of the most exciting matches with a dedicated and fast-paced style of play, featuring numerous dangerous opportunities. Mert Muldur opened the scoring with a stunning goal, but Georgia equalized in the first half through a quick chance taken by Georges Mikautadze.
In the second half, Arda Guler made his mark with a very classy shot that left goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadarshvili helpless, making it 2-1 for Turkey. Georgia pressed hard but, unable to find an equalizer, conceded a counter-attack goal to Kerem Akturkoglu, sealing a 3-1 victory for coach Vincenzo Montella’s team.
