In preparation for the Euro 2024 quarterfinal match against Spain, coach Nagelsmann has issued a ban preventing German players and team members from meeting with their girlfriends and wives during this period.
After advancing past the Round of 16, the German team will face Spain in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals. This highly anticipated match features two of the most impressive teams in the tournament so far.
With Euro 2024 being held on home soil, coach Nagelsmann’s squad stands a significant chance of winning the championship. To achieve this goal, the German strategist recently issued a ban for players and team members.
Specifically, Coach Nagelsmann stated, “We believe we can beat Spain in the quarterfinals. Therefore, after the victory, no women will be allowed in the German team’s living quarters. We want the players to focus entirely on football and put all their energy into training and preparing for the upcoming crucial matches.”
“If we reach the Euro 2024 semifinals, Germany will face the winner of the Portugal vs. France match. This means the entire team will have only four days to rest. From the group stage to the Round of 16, we have made every effort to allow families and players to meet. Therefore, no exceptions will be made,” Coach Nagelsmann added.
Previously, players and team members were free to meet with their girlfriends, wives, and families. Coach Nagelsmann himself was often seen with his girlfriend, Wurzenberger, during Euro 2024. Additionally, Anika Neuer, wife of goalkeeper Neuer, was also spotted at the German team’s camp late at night.
In the past, the presence of the WAGs (wives and girlfriends) was considered a factor contributing to Germany’s failure at the 2022 World Cup. After failing to advance past the group stage in the 2018 World Cup, the German team was determined to perform well in Qatar. However, under the leadership of Hansi Flick, the team again played poorly, resulting in another early exit from the tournament.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice President Joachim Watzke believed that the presence of the WAGs distracted the German players. They were also displeased to see the players caring for their children during the tournament.
