Jack Grealish could potentially miss out on participating in Euro 2024 with the England national team after enduring a nightmare season with Manchester City.
On May 26th, Jack Grealish took part in the celebratory parade to mark Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title win.
However, the £100 million star now finds himself battling with James Maddison of Tottenham for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, and Anthony Gordon all seem certain to secure a place in the squad after outstanding seasons with their respective clubs, while Bukayo Saka is guaranteed a starting spot.
But Grealish is in a different situation. He has struggled this season, and his lack of regular playing time for Manchester City would be a major drawback if he wants to start for the national team. The former Aston Villa captain has only featured in one of Manchester City’s last five matches.
That was just a brief 10-minute appearance in the 5-1 victory over Wolves back in February. Jack also failed to make an appearance in Manchester City’s loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup final 2023/24.
Moreover, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that Jack has had difficulties this season.
The Spanish tactician said, “Jack will come back. He has had a tough season this year, while Jeremy Doku has made an incredible leap forward, as everyone has seen in recent matches. But Jack will return to form like last season – I’m quite sure.”
Guardiola’s statement seems to unsettle Grealish further, who has only started 10 Premier League matches this season. However, what adds to his concern is that Manchester City has reached an agreement to sign Brazilian winger Savio this summer after his impressive performances for Girona.
Meanwhile, Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb will also strive for more playing time after impressing in his limited opportunities this season.
Currently, Grealish must focus on convincing Southgate that he deserves a spot in the final 26-man squad when England announces its roster on June 8th.
