A Czech Republic player has been excluded from Euro 2024 after sustaining an injury in a bicycle accident.
Michal Sadilek was initially included in the Czech Republic squad for Euro 2024. However, he will now miss the major European football event after a bicycle fall.
The 25-year-old midfielder suffered a leg tear from the fall, ending his hopes of representing his country this summer. The FC Twente star was participating in a personal training session when the incident occurred.
A statement from the Czech national team read: “Players who played more than half a match in the friendly against Malta had a personal training session on June 9. Unfortunately, Michal Sadílek fell while riding his bike and suffered a leg tear.”
Meanwhile, coach Ivan Hasek admitted that Sadilek will be a significant loss for his team: “It’s a big loss for us because Michal is one of the experienced players. After all, he also wore the captain’s armband in the match against Malta.”
“On behalf of the whole team, I wish him a speedy recovery. We will decide on Michal’s replacement in the coming days.”
Michal Sadilek has made 24 appearances for the Czech Republic and, as mentioned, wore the captain’s armband in the recent 7-1 friendly win against Malta.
The Czech Republic will begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Portugal on June 18, followed by matches against Turkey and Georgia in Group F.
