Recently, the host country Germany officially introduced the EURO 2024 mascot, which is a teddy bear dressed in football gear.
The host of EURO 2024, Germany, surprised everyone by unveiling the mascot on Tuesday to the amazement of children at an elementary school in Gelsenkirchen. This city also hosted a friendly match between the German national team and Colombia at the Veltins-Arena stadium, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the away team.
The teddy bear mascot for EURO 2024 is large-headed with round eyes, wearing shorts, marking the most noticeable improvement from the host nation. Remembering the 2006 World Cup held in Germany, they used a lion mascot named Goleo, which later became the subject of ridicule for not wearing shorts.
The EURO 2024 teddy bear mascot is equipped with a football jersey, socks, and shoes. Currently, the mascot’s name has not been determined. According to UEFA, they are conducting a vote for the mascot’s name, with four options: Albärt, Bärnardo, Bärnheart, or Herzi von Bär, where “Bär” in German means bear. Notably, children were invited to choose the name for the teddy bear mascot, and the result is in: the mascot’s name is Albärt with 32 votes.
Following the unveiling of the teddy bear mascot, the representative of the EURO 2024 host – Philipp Lahm stated: “As a parent, I know the importance of stimulating the imagination of children. With the introduction of the mascot, we hope to create a fun and lovable character that will inspire children to play football.”
The EURO 2024 mascot will embark on the MakeMoves journey in schools across Europe, stimulating the imaginations of students to depict activities for the masot to become more lively. Children can create their own skills and celebrations, and the EURO 2024 host will use motion-capture technology to record these movements and incorporate them into the mascot.</p>
