Messi warns Argentine stars not to mock anyone

Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul revealed that Lionel Messi had warned the entire team not to mock others, before Enzo Fernandez chanted a controversial slogan about the French national team.

After Argentina’s victory over Colombia in the final of Copa America 2024, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez shared a live video in which he and some teammates sang a “racist and homophobic” song aimed at the French national team.

Amid the backlash against Enzo’s behavior, De Paul said that Messi had previously told his teammates not to taunt their opponents after their historic victory against Brazil last year in the World Cup qualifiers. However, it seems that these words were not heeded with the recent discriminatory song.

When Argentina defeated Brazil last year, De Paul told Clarin about Messi: “He didn’t let us sing songs about Brazil on the field because he knows how things go. But at the hotel, in private, it’s different and he takes the highest position.”

Following Argentina’s victory at Copa America 2024, co: “Regarding Colombia, they said that Messi and Angel Di Maria were no longer the same, and we wanted to find them right after we won. But Messi told us: ‘No one is going to mock anyone, now we are going to celebrate.'”

Finally, De Paul added: “The Enzo situation is because people don’t analyze the song in the context of the field, it’s pure cheating. I understand that there are people who suffer from racism and other issues. I think they could have sent Enzo a private message and talked to him directly.”

“You call Enzo and tell him that this might bother you, you shouldn’t unfollow him and create such actions. The song was because we were there, everyone sang it too.”

As a result of this song, Chelsea launched an investigation into Enzo Fernandez, who then apologized for his actions. The French Football Federation took legal action to FIFA, and an Argentine minister was fired after suggesting that Messi should apologize, despite not being involved in the chants.

Enzo Fernandez will meet the Chelsea squad in the coming weeks to prepare for the new season, but many of his teammates are said to be “very angry” about the recent incident. It is still unclear what action will be taken against the midfielder.
