Luke Shaw expresses frustration, reaffirms loyalty to Manchester United

Luke Shaw has been included in the provisional squad for the England national team for the Euro 2024 tournament this summer, but it is increasingly likely that the Manchester United star will not feature in Germany.

Shaw wrote on Instagram: “I’m really happy the team lifted the cup over the weekend and ended this season on a high note. It’s not the outcome I wanted but it’s frustrating to watch from the sidelines, this has definitely been my most forgettable season.”

“I’ve worked tirelessly time and time again to regain fitness but things haven’t gone as planned. I tried everything to come back before the season ended and for the final but couldn’t make it.”

“I want nothing more than to play and win with @manchesterunited. I usually don’t react to things I see on social media but many have questioned my loyalty to this club and how I can be ready for England but not for MU.”

Shaw explains: “The fact is, I’m not 100% fit right now but I’m doing everything possible and relentlessly striving to achieve that. I’ve been at this club for 10 years through all the ups and downs and anyone questioning my loyalty is clearly frustrating.”

“I admit I haven’t kept everyone updated on my injury and recovery but the most important thing for me is supporting the team. My main focus right now is maintaining fitness and then see what happens in the summer.”

Luke Shaw may be alluding to Rooney, known from his latest interview that many players are feigning injuries to avoid playing. This might have touched Luke Shaw’s self-esteem.

Euro 2024 is approaching, with only about 2 weeks left, which is quite short for Shaw to make a comeback. Southgate is collaborating with the medical team to assess Luke Shaw’s situation. In the worst-case scenario, England will miss their top left-back at the Euro in Germany.
