Former Manchester United Striker Accurately Predicts the Netherlands vs Poland EURO 2024 Match

The match between the Netherlands vs Poland was highly exciting in their EURO 2024 opener and required the brilliance of “Super Sub” Wout Weghorst.

Former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst had predicted that he would be the one to bring victory to the Netherlands in their opening match against the challenging opponent, Poland.

“I told my girlfriend that morning (June 16th) because she wasn’t sure if she could come to watch the match live. I said that about 20 minutes before the match ends, the score will still be tied, and I’ll come on to score the winning goal. Sometimes you can just feel it,” Weghorst shared after the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Poland.

This was an incredibly difficult match for the Netherlands, as they quickly fell behind to a header from Adam Buksa. Although Cody Gakpo equalized just over 10 minutes later with a somewhat fortunate shot, the Dutch struggled to break down Poland’s solid defense, with Xavi Simons and Memphis Depay unable to find a way through.

It wasn’t until Weghorst entered the fray that “Oranje” found their breakthrough. Taking advantage of a direct pass into the box from Nathan Ake, Weghorst outmuscled Bartosz Salamon to unleash a left-footed shot that beat Wojciech Szczesny.

He completed his memorable day with a unique stat line: 1 touch – 1 shot – 1 goal.

This goal by Wout Weghorst received much praise from experts. Former England and Liverpool player Danny Murphy described it as a quintessential striker’s finish, while former Manchester United and West Ham manager lauded Weghorst’s strike as superb.

In the winter transfer window of 2023, Weghorst joined Manchester United on loan from Burnley and spent the latter half of that season at Old Trafford. Despite scoring only 2 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions for the “Red Devils,” Weghorst earned a special place in fans’ hearts due to his determined playing spirit.

Last season, he was loaned out by Burnley again, this time to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He scored 7 goals in 28 appearances and is set to return to Turf Moor. However, with Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, it’s likely that Weghorst will be allowed to leave.
